SUAA-UIUC is the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Chapter, one of multiple chapters located on Illinois public university and community college campuses. Benefits update

For SURS participants who ARE eligible for Medicare, the Benefits Choice period is October 15 - November 15, with changes effective January 1, 2024. Visit https://mybenefits.illinois.gov/ to view your current benefits and to make changes for the next year.

SURS participants who are not eligible for Medicare may change their benefits elections in the spring, usually about May 1 - May 31, with changes effective July 1.

SUAA-UIUC Chapter Update

Bylaws approved

At the December 6, 2020 meeting of the chapter, revisions to the chapter bylaws were approved by unanimous vote. The new Bylaws are here, and the original Bylaws are available here. A summary of changes is available here.

Executive Committee Meetings

The Executive Committee meets in person and via Zoom from 1:30 to 3:00 PM, the second Wednesday of each month, except for January and July, when meetings are held only if needed. Meeting dates for the next few months are posted under Events/Calendar. Minutes are posted after approval at the following meeting. Executive Committee meetings are open to all members; if you would like to join via Zoom, please contact webmaster@suaa-ui.org for Zoom contact information. Our next meeting will be held in the Champaign Public Library.

Fall, 2023 Meeting Featured
Associate Chancellor
Robin Kaler
Our fall meeting featured UIUC Associate Chancellor Robin Kaler, who spoke on recent changes around UIUC and reasons to be proud of your campus. Her talk was followed by a short business meeting with updates on current issues related to pensions and benefits. A reception followed. View the video of the presentation and meeting here.

Spring, 2023 Meeting Recap

Avoiding Retirement Regrets: Perspectives from Business and Social Work

SUAA-UIUC's spring meeting opened with a light reception at 6 pm followed by a keynote presentation from Dean Jeff Brown of UIUC's Gies College of Business and Dean Emerita Wynne Korr of the School of Social Work. They discussed the importance of being prepared, having goals, and then periodically reflecting on those goals. Dean Brown focused on financial preparedness. Dean Korr spoke about the importance of time for reflection and re-adjustment and building resilience to life challenges.

Originally scheduled for last fall but postponed due to the TRAIL health insurance town meeting, this presentation was well attended in person and via Zoom.
